Research & industry
PhD Research Scientist Intern, AI for Product Design
May – Aug 2026- Built a multi-agent AI system that automates mechanical engineering workflows: CAD drawing inspection, parametric model generation, 2D drawing automation, and FEA surrogate modeling.
- Developed an AI-native VR design app where engineers use voice and hand gestures to generate 3D geometry, run FE simulations, and navigate real product assemblies.
- Trained ML surrogate models for fast forward and inverse display design, enabling real-time performance prediction and optimization.
Graduate Research Assistant
Sep 2024 – Present- Research on AI for multimodal CAD generation: large-scale datasets and models for parametric design generation, UI action learning, and precision-controlled optimization.
- Collaborations with Toyota Research Institute, Siemens, and GE Vernova.
Graduate Research Assistant, CHARM Lab
Sep 2023 – Apr 2024- Designed the system and control of a neurosurgery robot combining an endoscope, an exoscope, and robotic arms.
- Trained the da Vinci surgical robot to autonomously retract tissues of varying stiffness.
Hardware Engineering Intern
Jun – Sep 2023- Ran a competitive reliability benchmarking study of tablets, including hands-on reliability testing and failure analysis.
- Wrote actionable design guidelines (water-ingress resistance, battery-to-carrier clearance) and analyzed how system-integration features correlate with robustness.
Graduate Research Assistant
Jan – Jun 2023- Built real-time decoding of a monkey's decisions in an iterated Battle of the Sexes game from neural spikes, reaching 90% accuracy.
Design Research Engineer, ME310
Sep 2022 – Jun 2023- Designed and built a smart pharmacy that dispenses single-packaged pills from UI orders (Raspberry Pi), through need-finding, benchmarking, and rapid iterative prototyping.
Robotics Research Intern
Apr – Jun 2022- Developed an Arduino-controlled, 3D-printed actuator for an organ-on-a-chip platform that renews cell-culture media automatically.
Research Engineer Intern (Bachelor Thesis)
Jan – Mar 2022- Characterized a 3D-printed polymer using a SolidWorks-designed setup, a hydraulic press, and DIC, then fitted a hyperelastic elastomer model.
Research Data Scientist Intern
Jun – Aug 2021- Analyzed gravity waves from 13 stratospheric balloons that flew over Antarctica for months, and built a metric that matches virtual balloon trajectories to real ones.
